Q&A

What is the Air Taxi Association?

The Air Taxi Association (ATXA) is an organization of next-generation air taxi providers that offer direct, on-demand flight service at business airline prices.  As an Association, the ATXA serves as an aligning force to push market growth, reduce costs, and provide best practices to speed the adoption of the next-generation air taxi model in a manner that benefits the industry.

Why was the ATXA formed?

Working with industry leaders, the Air Taxi Association was formed to meet the global needs of next-generation air taxi providers in key business initiatives and standards.  The ATXA focuses specifically on their business needs and accelerating market growth.

What value does the ATXA bring to the air taxi industry?

The Air Taxi Association is working to unite the industry and create synergies to more rapidly propel growth, profitability, and change.  By doing this, the ATXA will enable air taxi operators to collectively scale their efforts with common business standards that will increase aviation profitability.  The ATXA provides this value in a leadership team with a combination of industry expertise, innovation, and breadth of knowledge that will accelerate air taxi operator success.

Why is this a revolution in the aviation industry?  What's different?

A series of evolutionary steps have led to revolutionary business models that are driving costs down dramatically for business travelers.  Until this point, direct flights on demand had been a luxury to executive business travelers that many could not afford.  Employees with regional business are condemned to driving hours in order to meet with clients.  Alternatively, if they did choose to fly, they were forced to make connections at major airport hubs, extending the length of the trip.   The next-generation air taxi model adds a third, more economical solution, which includes direct flights via underutilized secondary airports.

What makes the air taxi model ‘next-generation’?

It is the combination of new technology and engines, less expensive aircraft components, lighter aircraft, and more efficient methodologies that fuse a series.  With the air taxi model, aircraft are utilized over 1500 hours per year, up from 750 hours, to significantly lower operational costs. The very light jet, next-generation light jet, and next-generation turboprops are lighter aircraft that offer lower costs and greater fuel efficiency.

Is air taxi travel as safe as flying on a major airline?

Aviation has a proud history of safety.  Major airlines today have one of the best safety records in the history of aviation.  Next-generation air taxis follow in the tradition of safety employing some of the most advanced technology available on any aircraft worldwide.  In very light jets and light jets, there are two pilots conducting rigorous safety checks identical to all major airlines.  Some next-generation air taxi operators even have an aircraft parachute system. The ballistic parachute can be launched in the event of an emergency, allowing the aircraft to float safely to the ground with additional air bag deployments on landing.  These advanced technologies make air taxi travel as safe as flying on a major airline.

How will ATXA strengthen relationships and maintain fairness between providers?

The Air Taxi Association is enabling next-generation air taxi operators to scale their efforts together with agreed upon common business standards that will increase overall profitability.  These include business technology standards, operational models, and industry policies.  Setting standards reduces costs, eliminates risks, and increases the value of all air taxi companies.  Although each of the air taxi company business models is unique, they all recognize the strength of acting as one.  To maintain fairness, the Air Taxi Association works to represent the common interests of all of our members and be a positive, unifying voice for the industry.

What will ATXA do to help its members maintain and generate new business?

The Air Taxi Association is developing a common set of tools and programs that can be used to generate new business and open new market opportunities.  Tools include cost efficiency calculators that objectively outline the benefits of utilizing air taxis versus other modes of transportation.  In addition, the ATXA conducts targeted marketing and sales campaigns to secure new customers, as well as other exclusive programs on request by members.

How is ATXA different than other aviation organizations?

The Air Taxi Association has a charter to serve next-generation air taxi providers in accelerating growth via common initiatives.  The ATXA does not conduct lobbying efforts for the industry, nor does it focus its efforts on broader business aviation issues.  We strongly encourage our members to join industry leading aviation organizations like NBAA, EBAA, GAMA, and NATA that share broader goals.  Like most professionals and leading organizations, our members belong to several different complimentary organizations.

Why should I join the Air Taxi Association?

Air taxi providers should join the Air Taxi Association to gain economies of scale and shape the future of business standards for our emerging industry, which will in turn provide an incredible return on investment for our members.  Requirements include a commitment to the agreed upon next-generation aircraft and standards, with a scalable business model that goes beyond traditional air charter and into the realm of next-generation air taxi.

Who should I contact for more information?

To join the Air Taxi Association as an official provider, companies must go through an interview process and election to the board.  Companies that are working towards operational launch may join as associate members, receiving many of the informational and cost savings benefits.  To schedule an initial meeting, please contact John Moates at our Atlanta headquarters at 770.353.0747.

Who should I contact for an interview?

Interviews may be arranged via John Moates.  They will be coordinated via the Director of Marketing and Communications, Chad Bishop, and most often are conducted with ATXA President Joe Leader.  The Air Taxi Association has a wide variety of member companies and industry experts available as additional interview sources.
